Ellouise Schoettler constructs luminous abstract compositions from fragments
of or brightly colored fabric. She layers bits of color until they coalesce
into richly textured surfaces. Her works are reminiscent of stained glass
windows and convey a feeling of spiritual mystery. Schoettler's passion for
genealogy spills over into the textile works the Mecklenburg Women Series.
Each abstract textile is named for a woman of her family line and is
accompanied by a brief story about the woman named in the title. The result
is a new approach to the family album.
